Creating a Character (of your own)ΒΆ
If you need more characters, and to make your games more unique, I encourage you to create your own characters. Use any of the existing characters as a template.
- Press Shift+D to duplicate any selected character
- Press F2 and rename the character
- Use AutoMirror to make it easier to model your mesh
- You can hide the armature if it's distracting
- Make modification using mesh editing techniques
- Change colors by moving the UVs on the palette
- Change the tint colors in the material properties to suit your character
- Show the armature again and go into pose mode - see how this character splits in half
- Re-order the modifiers so the mirror modifier goes before the armature
- Select the mesh, shift select the armature and press Ctrl+P and use automatic weights
- Adjust the weight-painting where needed, usually the eyes and detached geometry, like the hat, needs to have their weight paints adjusted
- Test posing the character in different ways to ensure the weight painting is correct
When you've created your character, you should fix the Shape Keys (a.k.a. Morph Targets) because they get broken in the character cloning and modification process.
Check out how to Fix The Shape Keys.
